Besides the obvious needed acoutrements, I always carry water (in a
Nalgene bottle:-)), my compass, a watch which clips to my bag, a
whistle, pepper spray, Kleenex, paper towels, ziplocks and a blank
logbook (new addition)-latter items are for box repairs. If the
season warrents, I also pack bug repellent and sunscreen. Plus, a
small plastic trowel if a box may be shielded by that blasted winter
white stuff. Oh, and wet wipes to clean my hands if picnicing then
boxing so as not to leave the scent of food on the box. I have seen
many a knawed upon l.b. and one or two with contents scattered about.
